| | Forty-nine days left of internship! How wonderful is that? I have to say that I've enjoyed most of it, but that it has certainly not been without its struggles as well. A friend and I were "debriefing" the experience the other day and he came to the conclusion that, if he had the foreknowledge of the entire package of this particular internship, he would not have even placed it on his rank list. What do I think? Certainly there is no perfect workplace and each program has its set of issues and problems. If I had to choose all over again, that would be a difficult decision. I probably have missed out on the educational opportunities and the more resident-centered experiences which come with a larger, university-based institutions. However, I have also gained the chance to work directly with wonderful staff which would have been off-limits to me if I were to in a more hierarchical program. It's hard to say. I just hope that I've made the most out of this year and that I am a better clinician because of it.
